Position Summary:

Assistant Professor of Rehabilitation Science primarily charged with overseeing fieldwork and experiential learning. This is a 9-month, full-time, Tenure Track faculty position with summer contracts possible.  

The Rehabilitation Science Program is located within the Department of Kinesiology and Rehabilitation Science, College of Education and Health. Undergraduate students complete a broad rehabilitation degree preparing them to enter a variety of fields, and as part of the curriculum students are required to complete fieldwork experiences that often lead to employment. The successful candidate will work primarily in cooperation with Rehabilitation Science faculty and students to ensure appropriate fieldwork placements that are in compliance with university, departmental, programmatic and accreditation standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Primary duties and responsibilities will be to oversee undergraduate and graduate fieldwork courses. This includes:

               Developing and maintaining fieldwork sites primarily throughout the state of Arkansas though students are occasionally placed elsewhere.

               Meeting with students to develop student-site matches.

               Placing students and completing placement paperwork.

               Supervising fieldwork students.

               Visiting all fieldwork students and site supervisors a minimum of twice a term.

               Teaching fieldwork classes.

               Monitoring student performance.

               Reporting potential issues to the Rehabilitation Science Program Director.

               Moderate travel is required.

Secondary duties and responsibilities include:

               Developing and teaching a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses.

               Effectively advising and mentoring students at the undergraduate and graduate level.

               Engaging students in high impact learning practices.

               Developing a sustainable scholarship program, including seeking external funds.

               Providing meaningful service to the department, college, university, and profession.

               Engaging in assessment and continuous improvement of courses.

               Performing other duties assigned by the Department Head.

               Participating in all trainings and Professional Development.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Understanding of the rehabilitation and/or counseling process, disabilities, marketing, organizational management, and theories, techniques and skills of the counseling profession.

Skills include organization, diplomacy, writing, oral communication, recruiting, marketing, and conflict resolution.

Abilities include collegiality, calm, creative, tolerant, flexible, and willingness to interact with diverse groups and populations.

Minimum Requirements:

Earned doctorate (or ABD with expected completion date by December 31, 2024) in rehabilitation counseling, clinical mental health, or related field.

Experience in Fieldwork Supervision.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ph.D. (or ABD with expected completion date by December 31, 2024) in Rehabilitation or Counseling related field.

Licensed Associate or Professional Counselor in Arkansas (LAC/LPC) or currently hold qualifications to achieve such.

Certified Rehabilitation Counselor.

Experience in Fieldwork Supervision.

Experience advising students in a university setting.

Work Location, Environment, and Physical Demands:

Must have ability and reliable transportation to drive to fieldwork sites.

This position is based in offices and classrooms at ATU.

The position is assigned a desk and computer in a location that may be in a different building than classroom locations, so the position requires the ability to change locations and/or walk moderate distances during the day.

Required activities include teaching and lecturing, sitting for extended periods, use of a keyboard and mouse, and use of standard office equipment.
