The Department of Health and Human Performance at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, College of Health, Education and Professional Studies invites applications for two tenure-track positions in Public Health beginning August 2024. 

 

Description:  

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, Department of Health and Human Performance, invites applications for two 9-month tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of 

Assistant Professor. These are full-time, tenure eligible faculty positions, requiring a balance of research, teaching, and service. The faculty will teach courses and advise students to equip students for a career in public health. The successful candidates will also be expected to work closely with the MPH Program Director in contributing to curriculum development and planning of the MPH program based on the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) accreditation standards. Additionally, the new faculty members will be expected to teach graduate and undergraduate courses (as needed), engage in interdisciplinary community-based partnerships, contribute to collaborative research projects, and provide service to the institution and the local community. Working collaboratively with faculty and staff within the program, department, college, and across campus is essential.

 

Information about the Program  

The Master of Public Health program has two concentrations: a concentration in Chronic Disease Prevention and Control and a concentration in Nutrition and Dietetics . Both MPH concentrations are accredited by CEPH and the Nutrition and Dietetic program is also accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). The MPH program is designed to develop leaders in public health who are qualified to address health-related needs at individual and community levels to improve health outcomes. Faculty members in the program are necessary to complement the existing faculty by contributing to the leadership process and to the growth of the program.

 

Required Qualifications:  

Successful candidates will possess the following requirements: 

·      An earned doctoral degree in a health-related field.

·      An earned Master of Public Health (MPH)

·      Evidence of conducting and disseminating health-related research such as peer-reviewed publications and professional presentation. 

·      Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively across all levels. 

·      Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate and build consensus among students, faculty, and community partners. 

·      Willingness to engage in assisting the UTC campus in its ability to reach additional goals, as specified in UTC’s strategic plan. 

 

Preferred Qualifications:  

·      At least one of the earned graduate academic degrees is from a program of public health accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH)  

·      Member of Delta Omega, the Honorary Society in Public Health 

·      Specialization in an area such as public health policy, biostatistics, epidemiology, rural health, environmental health, healthcare administration, chronic disease prevention and control, health disparities, and mental health.

·      College or university-level teaching experience in health-related fields such as public health, health policy, environmental health, healthcare administration, health systems, research methods, biostatistics, or epidemiology.

·      Knowledge of the CEPH and/or ACEND accreditation process.

·      Work experience in a health-related field.

·      Graduate-level teaching experience in public health.

·      Familiarity with a variety of instructional modalities, including online and hybrid instruction.
