Assistant Professor of Psychology

The Department of Psychology at the University of Alaska Anchorage is seeking a Clinical or Counseling Psychologist to fill a tenure track, beginning-level Assistant Professor position that includes teaching, research, and service responsibilities. Teaching responsibilities will be in both our undergraduate and graduate programs (MS in Clinical Psychology and APA accredited Ph.D. in Clinical-Community Psychology). The Department offers undergraduate and graduate degree and certificate programs aimed at preparing students: (1) for advanced study in the social and health sciences, and (2) to become members of the behavioral health workforce. The department strives to offer degree and certificate programs that meet the needs of the state of Alaska.

To be successful in this role, applicants should have evidence of their potential for successful teaching and service activity.

Minimum Qualifications:

Length of time and type of experience required for this position should be appropriate to the rank of tenure track assistant professor. Applicants must have university-level teaching experience and record of research and publication or demonstrated potential for research and publication.

Doctoral degree in Clinical, Counseling, or Clinical-Community Psychology from an APA accredited program at the time of hire.

Licensed or be license-eligible in Alaska.

Documented record of research and publication or demonstrated potential for research and publication.

ABDs will be considered but employment is contingent on conferral of degree by time of hire in August 2024.

Position Details:

This position is located on the University of Alaska Anchorage campus in Anchorage, Alaska. This is an in-person position located on the Anchorage campus; remote work is not available for this position.

This is a full-time, 9-month, tenure track, faculty position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package , including tuition waivers for employees and family members, affordable medical, dental and vision coverage, and representation under a Collective Bargaining Unit. The expected start date will be in August 2024. Salary will be based upon applicable academic preparation and experience. Opportunities for summer teaching are available.

Specific teaching load will depend upon a successful applicant’s expertise and departmental needs. The workload for this position is likely to be teaching (three courses per semester) and a combination of research and service to the university, community, and discipline. Faculty member is expected to develop a program of research consistent with their area of specialization, publish in their field and pursue external funding. Applicants whose teaching and research agenda creates community partnerships are encouraged to apply.

The teaching component of the workload will be a mix of undergraduate and graduate courses. Graduate courses may include Applied Psychological Testing, Intervention I, and Multicultural Issues in Psychotherapy. Undergraduate courses may include Psychopathology, Psychological Testing, and Health Psychology.
