Position Highlights The School of Animal and Comparative Biomedical Sciences in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at the University of Arizona invites candidates to apply for the position of an Assistant Professor of Practice in Microbiology. This is a year-to-year, non-tenure eligible faculty position with a total Full Time Equivalency (FTE) of 1.0: Instruction (90%) and Service (10%).

Duties & Responsibilities

A successful candidate will teach 18-24 credits per academic year (some adjustment to this number will be made to account for large enrollment courses), such as:

  • MIC205A General Microbiology (In-person and on-line Fall/Spring 3 credits)
  • MIC205L General Microbiology lab (Fall/Spring 16 sections with TA support, each1 credit)
  • MIC350 Molecular Microbiology (3 credits)
  • A microbiology course the candidate designs reflecting their interest and expertise (3 credits)
  • Provide mentorship and guidance for undergraduate students
  • Participate in university committees and collaborate with colleges to improve undergraduate education
  • Teaching responsibilities may be adjusted to meet the needs of the school
  • Have demonstrated skills in verbal and written scientific and/or pedological communication
Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD in Microbiology
  • Experience teaching in a university classroom
  • Have prior experience teaching online university level course in microbiology
  • Have prior experience teaching upper-level university courses in bacterial pathogens and microbial techniques
  • Have prior experience teaching using student centered learning techniques
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience designing and teaching upper division microbiology courses and laboratory classes
  • Minimum 3 years of teaching university courses in microbiology
