The University of Texas at Austin is seeking outstanding applicants for a full-time, professional track faculty position as Assistant Professor of Practice in the Inventors Program in the College of Natural Sciences for the 2024-2025 academic year.

In the Inventors Program, students use innovation processes and design-thinking to develop their own unique concepts to address real-world problems. Students gain understanding in how to access technical/scientific and business expertise, engage in interdisciplinary collaboration with students, faculty, and industry experts, develop intrapreneurial and entrepreneurial skills, and leverage unique background experiences.

Primary duties for this position include leading courses in the Inventors Program, including an introductory seminar and Practicum courses with industry-based problems. Engagement with industry partners is a key component of Practicum courses, so duties include liaising with local corporations and adapting curriculum to be relevant both to the industry and to modern work practices. A substantial effort in this role will be to integrate AI as a problem-solving tool.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach multiple courses each semester, participate in course development activities, mentor students through project management, manage course assistants, and coordinate lessons with industry sponsors/guests. Service on departmental committees, participation in peer teaching observations, and involvement in curriculum development efforts are also expected.

The rank of Assistant Professor of Practice carries a nine-month appointment, with an option for summer appointment, renewed annually based on demonstrated teaching excellence and need of the department.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Applications received on or before July 1, 2024, will be given priority consideration but we will continue to accept applications until the position is filled.
