Summary of Position
The Chemistry Program at Plymouth State University invites applications for a non-tenure track Assistant Professor of Practice position to commence in August of 2024. The program offers B. S. degrees in Chemistry and provides extensive service to other majors. We seek a dynamic and experienced educator with a strong commitment to using evidence-based approaches and teaching experience in general chemistry at the college level and chemistry at the high school level. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in general chemistry, biochemistry or biochemistry for nurses, related laboratory sections, and other chemistry courses as required. Additional duties include contributing to maintenance of the university general chemistry curriculum and secondary education STEM or chemistry educator curriculum design.
Professor of Practice positions are full time, with benefits, and with annual renewal based on performance and program need. The teaching load is 30-32 credit hours per year. The candidate will also be expected to advise undergraduate students and provide service to the university, but the position does not carry any research or scholarship requirements.

Acceptable Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Chemistry or closely related field.
  • College-level teaching experience.
  • Competence in technology and innovative course delivery strategies.
  • Skills to serve as an academic advisor and mentor for undergraduate students.
  • Willingness to work with the Nursing and Forensic Science programs.
  • Willingness and ability to collaborate and work well with others.

Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching General Chemistry courses to undergraduate students.
  • Experience teaching to non-majors (especially in health-related, biology, and similar majors).
  • Experience teaching chemistry at the high school level or designing a secondary education STEM teacher training degree program.
  • Experience teaching and/or working with students of diverse abilities, including first-generation students.
  • Experience developing and utilizing innovative and engaged pedagogical methodologies.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and students across the college.
