The Department of Child, Youth, and Family Studies (CYAF) is seeking to hire an assistant professor of practice in Family and Consumer Sciences Education. The position is non-tenure track with full faculty status, benefits, and opportunities for promotion.
The Family and Consumer Sciences Education program prepares candidates in a broad field occupational endorsement for grades 6-12. Coursework includes teaching pedagogy requirements, as well as specific strategies and content related to Family and Consumer Sciences curriculum and career pathways. We seek a candidate who has the ability and willingness to teach, advise, and supervise students majoring in Family and Consumer Sciences Education and Human Development and Family Science. The successful candidate will assume responsibility for all operational aspects of the Family and Consumer Sciences Education program including curriculum and program enhancement, collaboration with other two-year and four-year colleges and universities in Nebraska, and participation in professional activities supporting the department and students enrolled in the program. The successful candidate will also effectively engage with state, regional, local, and university community stakeholders to recruit, support, and retain Family and Consumer Sciences educators.

This is a full-time, non-tenure track position with an anticipated apportionment of 95% teaching and 5% service.

Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Earned Ph.D. or Ed.D. in education or another human sciences discipline (e.g., Family Consumer Sciences Education, Human Development and Family Science, etc.) or a documented plan of completion by the appointment start date.
  • Record of, or demonstrated potential for, university, college, or professional teaching.
  • Demonstrated commitment to and application of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) principles in service and scholarship of teaching and learning.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the history and foundational philosophy of the field of Family and Consumer Sciences Education.
  • Experience developing working relationships with community and organization leaders.
  • Current teaching certification in Family and Consumer Sciences Education.
  • Experience teaching in middle and/or high school family and consumer sciences programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach courses of various sizes using multiple modalities (e.g., in person, online, hybrid).
