General Information
The Department of Engineering at James Madison University (JMU) invites applicants to join our community and support our project-intensive undergraduate engineering curriculum. We are seeking to hire one Assistant Professor of Practice, a renewable non-tenure track position, to start in August 2024.
The JMU Department of Engineering is a community of educators striving to enable its diverse faculty, staff, and students to achieve broad successes in teaching and learning, scholarship and entrepreneurship, and service to others. The department offers an ABET-accredited BS degree in engineering. Anchored in the liberal arts through the university’s general education program, JMU’s engineering major is characterized by experiential learning of engineering as an intradisciplinary practice. The vision of the department is to nurture project-ready engineers who know how to make things happen, an approach recognized in national rankings and networks for engineering education. The department currently has 14 full-time faculty members representing many different engineering disciplines, five support staff, and approximately 500 students. Its strengths include dedicated faculty and staff, an engaged and invested student body and alumni, strong administrative and lab support, and well-equipped laboratories and design studios. JMU prizes collaboration among academic units and provides unique opportunities for interdisciplinary, team-based teaching and scholarship, with a strong focus on undergraduate research opportunities. More information about the department may be found at https://www.jmu.edu/cise/engineering/.
Our department is situated in the College of Integrated Science and Engineering (CISE), which implements inclusive practices. More information about the college’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) can be found at https://www.jmu.edu/cise/diversity-inclusion/index.shtml.
Duties and Responsibilities
We seek to expand our department with an Assistant Professor of Practice who will support our mission by teaching undergraduate engineering courses in the areas of mechanics, circuits, and/or management.
The position is a ten-month, renewable appointment and is eligible for promotion. Although the position is primarily focused on teaching, there is opportunity for scholarship, professional development, and service to the department, college, and university.
