THIS POSITION IS LOCATED IN KNOXVILLE, TN

This faculty position will involve patient care, resident teaching, and research responsibilities.  The position will focus on maxillofacial trauma management and will provide organization of the tri-partite initiative.  In particular, the recruited faculty member will:

1.     Strategic alliance development with the Chief of Trauma and his faculty in Trauma and Emergency Care at the University of Tennessee Medical Center (UTMC).

2.     Development and dissemination of scholarly activity regarding maxillofacial trauma diagnosed and treated at UTMC.

3.     Organization of the maxillofacial trauma service, including the call schedule with the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS).

4.     Frequent interface with the call center at UTMC regarding transfers and other logistics related to expedient and high-quality care of maxillofacial trauma patients at UTMC.

5.     Oversight of OMFS residents in maxillofacial trauma care, including their presentations at biweekly grand rounds.

6.     Development of a quarterly conference curriculum in maxillofacial trauma for the OMFS residents.

7.     Interface with Department of Dentistry regarding the coordinated effort of the faculty in Dentistry in overseeing care for dental trauma patients and the General Practice dental residents who provide such care, particularly as these services overlap with the general care of the maxillofacial trauma patient. 

8.     Frequent interface with the community oral and maxillofacial surgeons regarding their overall care of the maxillofacial trauma patient, including their provision of call, their acquisition of sufficient operating room time, and their interest in continuing to provide call coverage for our maxillofacial trauma initiative.

9.     Interface with University Health Services, Inc. regarding the reimbursement for maxillofacial trauma call coverage by OMFS and plastic surgery faculty/attendings.

The faculty member will supervise residents in their clinical training with encouragement of scholarly activity.

The allocation of effort for this position will be 60% clinical, 30% educational, and 7.5% research, and 2.5% institutional service.

Basic Qualifications: 

This position requires a dental degree and completion of a CODA accredited residency program in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Current certification by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is beneficial, or a plan to secure such certification.

Departmental Preferences: 

This position will provide an excellent opportunity for an oral and maxillofacial surgeon with a passion for education and the leverage of a robust patient care experience to a scholarly activity construct.  A significant background in maxillofacial trauma management is required.
