Primary Duties and Responsibilities: | The Department of Psychological Science and Neuroscience in the College of Sciences and Mathematics at Belmont University in Nashville (TN) is seeking applications for a tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 1st, 2024. Job responsibilities include twelve hours
of undergraduate teaching per semester as well as other departmental, college,
and university professional responsibilities, including academic advising,
student mentoring, scholarly activity, and service. Candidates must be
committed to superior teaching, and teaching responsibilities will include
Introduction to Neuroscience for majors, General Neuroscience as a general
education course, Neurobiology, Research Methods, General Psychology,
and other elective and/or laboratory courses depending on the candidate's
interests and training background. In addition to teaching courses, candidates
are expected to engage in scholarly activity and the supervision of independent
undergraduate research in an empirically-oriented department with 75
neuroscience majors and additional minors. Paid summer research and teaching
opportunities are available to further scholarship and/or training activities.
Student-lead projects are presented yearly at conferences, including Society
for Neuroscience and Cognitive Neuroscience Society. At Belmont, a variety of
scholarly productivity is valued, including the scholarship of teaching,
discovery, integration, and application. This position will eventually lead to
leadership opportunities as neuroscience program director. The exact
experimental neuroscience focus for this position is open, as well as the model
used (human, rodent, computational, etc.). There is strong interest in
individuals with a background in cellular and/or molecular techniques, as well
as those with computational and modeling techniques in the neurosciences. Applicants must have either earned a Ph.D. in any area
of neuroscience, psychology, biology, or related fields, or are expected to
complete all Ph.D. requirements by August 2024; teaching experience and/or postdoctoral
experience is strongly preferred. As all Belmont undergraduates
complete an innovative general education program with significant
interdisciplinary components, Belmont University is particularly seeking
applicants who can demonstrate the interest and ability to work collaboratively
in course design and to teach interdisciplinary and topical courses in this
