Position Summary
The School of Music at UNC Greensboro invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Music Theory position beginning August 1, 2024. We seek a dynamic colleague committed to working with students from diverse musical, social, and cultural backgrounds. The candidate will join the music theory faculty as we embark on a revised and more flexible undergraduate curriculum that embraces stylistic diversity and recognizes music as a global practice. In addition to contributing to and enriching our new undergraduate offerings, the candidate will also teach graduate seminars and advise students in our MM in Music Theory program and two graduate certificate programs in music theory. The position entails cultivating an active program of research and publication in music theory and engaging in service to the school, university, and professional organizations. Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD in Music Theory (or equivalent doctoral degree) by August 1, 2024. If degree is not received by August 1, 2024, will be appointed as an Instructor.
  • Experience teaching music theory or aural skills at the college level
  • An active research agenda in music theory
Preferred Qualifications
  • A record of employing inclusive practices in creative activity and research, teaching, and service and/or experience working with diverse student populations and first-generation students.
  • Experience teaching both music theory and aural skills
  • Promising research agenda that complements that of current faculty and that includes a secondary research area
