University of Tennessee at Chattanooga  

The Music Department and the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) invite applicants for the position of Assistant Professor of Music/Director of Athletic Bands. We seek a collaborative music educator who will assist with all aspects of the UTC band program as Associate Director of Bands and work with our music faculty as an instrumental music education specialist.  This is a 9-month (plus summer prep), tenure earning position within the College of Arts and Sciences and Department of Music.

Requirements: Collaborate with the Director of Bands on all musical and administrative aspects of the UTC Band Program; Serve as Director of the Marching Band; conduct Pep Band; conduct the Symphonic Band (second band spring semester only) and serve as associate conductor of the UTC Wind Ensemble. Teach instrumental music education methods courses. Additional teaching assignments based on area of expertise and experience. 

Qualifications:

Minimum

• 3 years teaching experience at the K-12 level
• Must have at least 1 degree in Music Education (Bachelor’s or Master’s)
• Master’s degree in Music Education or Conducting

Preferred

• DMA in Conducting or PhD in Music Education
• 5+ years teaching experience at the K-12 level
• University teaching experience

The ideal candidate will demonstrate success as an instrumental music educator, conductor and teacher who is skilled in the organizational aspects of a university band program.

Employment Date: July 15, 2024

Salary: $60,000.00

About the Department

The Department of Music at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) has 24 faculty members and over 120 majors pursuing degrees in performance, music education, music therapy and composition. UTC is an accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music. The Music Division is housed in the newly renovated (2020) Fine Arts Center and Cadek Hall. The Fine Arts Center is home to the 500-seat Roland Hayes Concert Hall and the UTC Bands rehearsal space and offices.
