Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering (Tenure Track)
Primary Purpose and Essential Functions:

The University of the Pacific School of Engineering and Computer Science invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering, to start ideally in Spring 2024, but Fall 2024 will be considered. Exceptionally well-qualified candidates will be considered for higher ranks.
Teaching responsibilities will include a variety of undergraduate mechanical and general engineering courses as well as the opportunity to develop new graduate courses in the candidate's area of expertise.
Other duties include: advising undergraduate majors, participation in departmental and university governance, and ongoing professional development.
This is a unique opportunity for a faculty position in a great location. University of the Pacific is in central California with quick access to several hubs of technology and science, including Silicon Valley, San Francisco, Livermore, and Sacramento.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have completed a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field prior to the start date. Preferred areas of specialty include, but are not limited to, areas of Materials Science and/or Manufacturing, Thermal Fluid Sciences or Energy.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • The successful candidate will be committed to excellence in teaching at a predominantly undergraduate institution and dedicated to establishing a research program that engages students.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures is preferred.
  • Demonstrate experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting, and ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work is desired.

Requires extended periods of sitting and repetitive hand/wrist motion while using computer keyboard and phone. Occasional standing, walking climbing stairs, bending, stooping and reaching. Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
