The Department of Mathematics and Statistics in the School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Richmond invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in the 2027-2028 academic year. The department welcomes applicants from a variety of fields within mathematics. We are especially interested in candidates with expertise in applied mathematics, broadly defined, whose scholarship interests can support our thriving mathematical economics major (https://math.richmond.edu/academics/mathecon/index.html ). A doctoral degree in mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics, or a related field must be completed prior to the start date.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to liberal arts teaching by educating students across the curriculum, contributing to our core mathematics program, and offering upper‑level electives in their area of expertise. The position carries a 3‑2 undergraduate teaching load. We expect candidates to maintain an active research program with the potential to involve undergraduates in meaningful research experiences. Faculty members are expected to serve on department and university committees and are encouraged to participate in campus-wide initiatives supporting our strategic priorities of academic excellence, belonging and community, and experiential learning. New faculty can participate in a year-long collaborative mentoring program and are also supported by programming developed by the Faculty Hub (https://facultyhub.richmond.edu/ ).

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics offers a vibrant program that equips students with theoretical and computational skills for success in many areas of employment, graduate school, and other post-graduation opportunities (https://math.richmond.edu ). Applicants should apply online at http://jobs.richmond.edu , where they should submit a curriculum vitae, cover letter, teaching statement, and research statement. In their cover letter, candidates should address their experience with, or commitment to, fostering an inclusive and welcoming campus community for a diverse student body. Candidates for this position might be asked at a later date to provide the names and contact information for three references who will be asked to submit letters of recommendation. Questions about the application or materials may be directed to Search Chair Dr. Joanna Wares, at [email protected]. Review of applications will commence on October 5, 2026, and continue until the position is filled.
