The Department of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Data Science at Belmont University is seeking applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Mathematics beginning August 1, 2024.  

Candidates are invited to submit applications to join a collaborative group of faculty who serve a diverse population of undergraduate mathematics, computer science, and data science majors. Our faculty provides high quality learning experiences in a small class environment and engages undergraduates in various research experiences. Job responsibilities include twenty-four hours of undergraduate teaching per year (typically four three-hour courses each semester), as well as academic advising, scholarly activity, and other departmental, college, and university professional responsibilities. Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to, and preparation for, the following: excellence in teaching undergraduates of all levels; a willingness to teach in Belmont’s general education program; a passion for their discipline that will aid in attracting and retaining undergraduate majors; and the ability to sustain scholarly research that includes undergraduates. At Belmont, it is understood that scholarship encompasses the scholarship of teaching, as well as scholarship of discovery, integration, and application. A Ph.D. in mathematics, or closely related field, or progress towards a terminal degree is required; teaching experience strongly preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of the programs and services offered by Belmont University. Interest and ability to work collaboratively in course design and to teach interdisciplinary and topical courses.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies.
   
Required Education Applicants must have earned a Ph.D. in Mathematics, or a closely related field, by August 2024.
   
Required Experience Teaching experience is strongly preferred.
