The MMP is a new degree program jointly supported by UAF CFOS and the University of Alaska Southeast (UAS ) School of Arts and Sciences (SAS ), with UAF acting as the lead institution. The MMP degree program engages students in a curriculum that instills an integrated background in (1) Living Marine Resources and their Management, (2) Analytic Methods, (3) Law and Policy, and (4) Economics, Development, and Sustainability. The wide selection of courses that satisfy these core and elective requirements facilitates the individualization of the curriculum to support each student’s goals. Courses included in the program are drawn from the Alaska Native Studies, Anthropology, Arctic and Northern Studies, Biology, Cross-cultural Studies, Economics, Fisheries, Geography, Marine Biology, Natural Resource Management, Political Science, Public Administration, Rural Development, and Statistics programs at UAF and UAS.

The College offers a B.S. in Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, a B.A. in Fisheries, Minors in Marine Science and Fisheries, Master of Marine Policy, Master of Marine Studies and Blue MBA degree programs, as well as M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Oceanography, Marine Biology and Fisheries. The UAF campus houses the Ocean Acidification Research Center, the Alaska Stable Isotope Facility, a Multi-Collector ICP-MS, the Advanced Instrumentation Laboratory (AIL), and the Genomics Core Laboratory for Nucleic Acid Analysis. Our coastal facilities include the Seward Marine Center, the NOAA-UAF Kasitsna Bay Laboratory, and the Lena Point Fisheries Facility. The College has over 150 faculty, researchers and staff based throughout Alaska, more than 100 graduate students engaged in thesis research in Alaska waters and throughout the world, and a growing undergraduate degree program in fisheries and ocean sciences.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
REQUIRED:
- Demonstrated English proficiency.
- Experience teaching at the university level.
- Ability to teach 2-4 courses per year, including one or more of the courses already included in the MMP program.
- Ability to develop one or more MMP program courses in their area of expertise.
- Ability to work with private and public external constituencies through service as a member of science and policy advisory bodies to state, federal, tribal, and international marine and fisheries policy organizations.
- Ability to collaborate with colleagues in other disciplines and institutions.
PREFERRED:
- Expertise in one or more of the following areas: mariculture policy and management, marine spatial planning, international and high seas fisheries policy and management, arctic marine policy, maritime law, coastal community economic development, or the governance, management, and co-management of tribal and indigenous fisheries.
- Prior experience working with resource management agencies, coastal communities, or tribes is desirable.
Typical Experience:
A research, teaching, and service record commensurate with their experience.
Required Education or Training:
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree from an accredited university in marine policy, marine affairs, fisheries, marine science or closely related discipline.
Salary Information:
This is a full-time tripartite tenure-track faculty position complete with both a competitive salary (starting pay is DOE) and UA employee benefits package . The position will be located in Juneau or Fairbanks, Alaska.
