Position: The School of Music at the University of South Florida is searching for an innovative, creative and collaborative percussion instructor at the rank of Assistant Professor of Instruction. This is a 9-month, full-time, continuing position which contributes to the teaching and service missions of the University of South Florida. Anticipated start date is August 5, 2024 or earlier depending on the availability of the successful candidate and the needs of the school.

Duties: The USF percussion instructor will mentor students for diverse musical careers as they design, build, promote, and recruit for a high-quality and innovative percussion program for undergraduate and graduate students. They will maintain an active studio while teaching private applied lessons and a variety of percussion courses and ensembles. They will actively collaborate across the local/regional/national/international community, and with faculty and students across the University of South Florida, and they will engage in the School of Music, College of The Arts, and the University of South Florida as they contribute to committees, meetings, auditions, and recruitment activities.

QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience):

Minimum Qualifications: The candidate must hold a completed terminal degree in music (PhD, DMA, etc.). The candidate must document prior experience teaching applied percussion lessons at the post-secondary level, administrating a college/university percussion program, and leading a diverse array of percussion ensembles, including ensembles of atypical instrumentations that work within digital media and/or collaborative structures, at the post-secondary level. The candidate must also demonstrate experience leading world music ensembles such as steel drum and/or Latin groups, also at the post-secondary level. In addition to a broad knowledge of the traditional concert percussion repertoire, the candidate must also document programing that innovates and redefines percussion experiences.

Preferred Qualifications: The ideal candidate also has a demonstrated involvement composing/arranging/screen scoring experience for a variety of percussion ensembles. The ideal candidate also has experience recruiting and retaining high quality undergraduate and graduate students, as music majors, into a college/university School of Music.
