The University of Alaska Fairbanks Department of History invites applications for a tenure-track position (nine-month appointment) at the level of Assistant Professor beginning in the 2024-2025 academic year (August 2024). The position is located in Fairbanks, Alaska.

The successful applicant will be qualified to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels; teach survey courses in Asian, Pacific, or Global History; and mentor graduate students in the Arctic and Northern Studies (ACNS) Program. We are especially interested in applicants who bring complementary areas of expertise that will diversify our course offerings in History and Arctic and Northern Studies. Complementary areas of expertise that particularly interest the department are the circumpolar North, and Indigenous peoples and cultures.

The University of Alaska Fairbanks History Department offers a BA in-person and online. We teach modern US, European, and East Asian History with broad expertise in the circumpolar North. The History Department is closely affiliated with the Arctic and Northern Studies Program, which is a growing interdisciplinary area studies program that offers undergraduate and graduate degrees.

Minimum Qualifications:

PhD in History or related field at time of appointment. The committee will consider applicants who are all but dissertation (ABD), but candidates must have their earned their PhD at the time of appointment, August 2024.

Expertise in History.

Teaching experience at the college level.
