The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Rhode Island (URI) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level in the broad area of geotechnical engineering. Appointment August 2024.
The successful candidate will join a college in state-of-the-art facilities thanks to a $150M investment in the Fascitelli Center for Advanced Engineering (opened in 2019) and the recent approval of a state bond to build a new Ocean Engineering complex at the Narragansett Bay Campus. The current Geotechnical Group consists of two faculty members with active research programs in health monitoring of offshore wind structures, innovative marine anchoring systems, seafloor acoustics, coastal resilience, and soil-structure interaction. Facilities include advanced geotechnical testing laboratories, a 10-ton seismic cone penetration rig, MASW system, pile load testing equipment, numerical software including FLAC-3D and Plaxis Monopile Designer, access to research vessels and coring equipment, and a field instrumentation and testing site on campus. More information about the Group and its activities can be found at https://web.uri.edu/geotechnical/ .
The University of Rhode Island is a Doctoral Research, Land Grant, Sea Grant and Urban Grant University.
