Position Details

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry in the College of Natural and Health Sciences at The University of Tampa invites applications for a tenure-track position in Forensic Science at the Assistant Professor level starting in August 2024.

The FEPAC-accredited Forensic Science program (https://www.ut.edu/forensic-science-major-video ) is housed within the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry in the College of Natural and Health Sciences.

Currently, over 100 students are in the FEPAC accredited forensic science program, which focuses on drug analysis, toxicology, crime scene, latent prints, firearms and toolmarks, and forensic DNA.

Responsibilities will include teaching and research in the successful candidates' field of expertise and teaching other chemistry courses as assigned by the department. Shared instrumentation available to faculty members includes LC-MS/MS (low-resolution MS), LC-MS/MS (Orbitrap MS), DART-MS, two GC-MS instruments, 400 MHz NMR spectrometer equipped with a cold probe, a preparative HPLC system, ICP-OES, three GC-FID instruments, an FTIR microscope, three stand-alone FTIR instruments, SEM-EDS, five firearms comparison microscopes, a sterile culture facility, and a capillary electrophoresis genetic analyzer.

Candidates are expected to have a commitment to excellence in teaching undergraduate students, mentoring undergraduate student research, scholarly activity, and service within the environment of a primarily undergraduate institution. A typical teaching load is 12 contact hours in a 14-week semester.

Qualifications

A Ph.D. in a discipline related to Forensic Science, such as Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and Materials Science. Research related to one or more of the following is preferred but not required: forensic DNA analysis, forensic toxicology, trace evidence, microscopy, firearms, forensic chemistry, forensic anthropology, forensic geology, and document examination.
