Description of Job Duties and Responsibilities
Fairmont State is hiring 2 positions in the Department of Health and Human Performance in the area of Exercise Science. The successful candidates will be expected to contribute to the success of the department in the areas of Teaching, Service (advising, committee work, etc.) and Scholarship (supervising Undergraduate/Graduate Student Research, etc.).
Teaching:
Primary duties include:
  • Teach courses and provide quality academic advising in the undergraduate and graduate Exercise Science program
  • Design and deliver instruction (face-to-face and online as needed) in undergraduate and graduate level courses
  • Provide timely feedback to students
  • Establish student connections in the classroom, lab, and community. 
  • Prepare and coordinate associated laboratory activities

Potential courses may include, but are not limited to:
  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Physiology of Exercise
  • Fitness Assessment
  • Clinical Applications of Exercise Physiology
  • Strength & Conditioning
  • Research Methods
  • Research Design
  • Graduate Cardio/Pulmonary Exercise Physiology
  • Advanced Strength and Conditioning

Service:
  • Engage in service at the Department, School, and University levels.
  • Participate in student recruitment and retention initiatives for the Department, College and University
  • Serve as a student-centered advisor both in and out of the classroom.
  • Engage in program development that connects students and faculty to the community.

Scholarship:
  • Maintain appropriate scholarly or professional development activity and provide expertise in exercise science.
  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate student research.
  • Research in area of expertise is preferred but not required.

Leadership:
  • Contribute to the continuing innovation and development of the Exercise Science program.
  • Engage in assessment and evaluation of the exercise science program.
  • Participate in the grant process
Minimum Required Education
Doctoral Degree (ABD considered with clear timeline to completion) from an accredited institution in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Human Performance, Kinesiology, or related field.

  • Ability to successfully teach at the university level.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Evidence of effective classroom and laboratory teaching in higher education.
  • Evidence of external certifications such as ACSM and/or NSCA.
  • Experience teaching using a learning management system (Blackboard preferred).
  • Demonstrated experience in grant writing.
  • Experience in academic advising.
