Description of Work Unit
The Department of Political Science at Colorado State University provides quality undergraduate and graduate educational programs leading to the B.A., M.A. and PhD degrees. Our curriculum covers the breadth of the Political Science discipline including American politics, comparative politics, international relations, political theory, and public policy and administration. The Department has a unique specialization in environmental politics and policy, which is reflected in the undergraduate and graduate curricula as well as faculty research and outreach. The Department serves 500 majors and minors along with more than 40 graduate students and houses the Straayer Center for Public Service Leadership. Approximately one-third of the undergraduate majors are first-generation college students. Our 16 tenure-track faculty conduct research to advance knowledge about government and politics and to identify solutions to societal problems in the United States and around the world. Faculty members are actively involved with interdisciplinary programs at CSU, including the School of Global Environmental Sustainability; the Center for Women’s Studies & Gender Research; the Center for Public Deliberation; the Center for Environmental Justice; the Political Economy Graduate Interdisciplinary Program; the One Health Institute; the Partnership for Air Quality, Climate and Health; the Institute for Research in the Social Sciences; and the Latin American and Caribbean Studies Minor.

Position Summary
The Department of Political Science at Colorado State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in environmental policy and administration. Advanced Assistant Professors are encouraged to apply. We are especially interested in candidates with a substantive focus in agriculture, food, water, resilience, urban sustainability, and/or natural resource policy.
The Department values both strong teaching and research. Successful candidates will be expected to offer courses in the public policy and administration curriculum at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, including graduate and undergraduate courses on U.S. environmental policy. Additional teaching assignments will depend on the candidate’s interests and expertise as well as departmental needs. The normal teaching load is 2-2.
Faculty members are also expected to advise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students; demonstrate an active research agenda; and provide service to the department, college, university, and community. Approximately one-third of undergraduate political science majors at CSU are first-generation college students. The Department offers programs of study leading to the B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees. The doctoral degree emphasizes the study of environmental politics and policy.

Required Job Qualifications
  • Primary teaching and/or scholarly emphasis in public policy & administration
  • Evidence of an active research agenda focused on environmental policy
  • Ability to teach courses on U.S. environmental policy
  • PhD in Political Science, public policy, public administration, or related field by August 16, 2023
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness.
Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Ability to enhance the Department’s commitment to diversity and inclusion reflecting Departmental and institutional values.
  • Substantive focus in agriculture, food, water, resilience, urban sustainability, and/or natural resource policy.
  • Candidates who can teach any of the department’s methods courses (quantitative, qualitative, or research design) are encouraged to apply.
