Position Description


Advertised Job Summary
The University of South Carolina Sumter invites qualified candidates to apply for tenure-track Assistant Professor of English with an anticipated start date of August 16, 2024. Candidate must be willing and able to teach both lower and upper-level undergraduate courses in English in both traditional and online settings. This is a 9-month full-time teaching, research, and service position. Candidates must possess a doctorate in English from an accredited institution by the beginning date of employment, including credentials necessary for departmental approval to teach introductory and upper-level courses as needed. ABD candidates meeting the same qualifications will be considered for an interview but must have a terminal degree in hand by the time of appointment. The successful candidate must have at least 8 months of part-time experience as instructor of record for undergraduate courses (such as introductory-level critical reading and composition courses and introductory-level rhetoric and composition courses) by the start date of employment.
The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours (four courses) per semester. Evidence of teaching effectiveness is required. Applicants must also demonstrate a strong commitment to establishing and maintaining professional activity in scholarship and service, including student advising, mentoring, and participation on campus and Palmetto College committees. Starting salary at least $50,000 per academic year depending on qualifications.
The initial screening of applicants will begin April 2024 and continue until filled.
