Job Summary:

The Department of English, Philosophy, and Modem Languages at West Texas A&M University seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor of English with a specialization in Medieval literature to begin Fall 2022. Additional competencies in gender studies or pre-modem race theory are welcome. A Ph.D. in English, comparative literature, or related fields required by the time of appointment.

This full-time, 9-month faculty position requires an outstanding teacher for courses in first-year composition, the general education core curriculum, undergraduate English, and the M.A. in English program. The typical teaching load is 3/3 with a mixture of first-year composition, undergraduate, and graduate classes. Other responsibilities include maintaining an active research agenda that results in peer-reviewed publications, student advising, and participating in departmental, college, and university service.

Work Performed:

  • Teaches up to 3 lower-division sections of English, usually including two courses related to English composition and/or tech comm per semester (a total of 3 courses per semester).
  • Teaches as many as two upper-division/graduate-level courses in area of specialization per semester (for a total of 3 courses per semester).
  • Produces research in area of specialization, in accordance with departmental guidelines for moving toward tenure.
  • Contributes to departmental service as needed.

Necessary Qualifications:

  • PhD in English, Comparative Literature, or related field by September 2022.
  • Specialization in Medieval Literatures.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Gender Studies or Pre-modern race theory
