Job Description:

The Department of Literature and Languages at Christian Brothers University invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of English with a specialty in Medieval and Early Modern literature. A particularly strong candidate will have experience designing and teaching introductory and advanced courses in the Digital Humanities, which can support our growing Humanities Computing minor, as well as community engaged/Public Humanities courses. Our faculty particularly welcomes candidates who deploy Black studies, de/post colonial studies, disability studies, ethnic studies, feminist and sexuality studies, and/or other critical frameworks in their scholarship and pedagogy. The faculty member will be asked to contribute broadly to the department, especially through the teaching of upper-division courses in Medieval and Early Modern literature, honors world literature (ancient through 1600 literature), and general education literature and composition courses.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach 12 hours per semester (a 4/4 teaching load).
  • Teach general education courses in composition (ENG 111: English Composition I and ENG 112: English Composition II).
  • Teach General Education courses in literature (ENG 211: Introduction to Literature, ENG 221: British Literature Survey I, and ENG 231 Honors World Literature I).
  • Develop and teach courses for the majors in English studies.
  • Support undergraduate research.
  • Serve as an academic advisor for students.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain active creative and/or research agenda.
  • Participate on university committees and in shared governance.
  • Engage in continuing professional development.
  • If qualified, teach online courses.
  • If qualified, teach drama and/or playwriting courses.

Requirements:

Job Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in English, Comparative Literature, or related subject.
  • Undergraduate teaching experience required.
  • To be considered for the appointment of Assistant Professor, the candidate must have Ph.D. in hand by August 11, 2022.
