Position description

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) at the University of California, San Diego, is actively seeking applications for an Assistant Professor position. This role is dedicated to broadening the Department's research portfolio at the intersection of energy/climate and engineering. The successful candidate will participate in a dynamic enterprise within MAE in the realm of energy-related disciplines, with a specific emphasis on climate impact.

The Department encourages applications with interests in a broad array of areas, including but not limited to: carbon sequestration, innovative design of zero-emissions vehicles (ZEVs), renewable energy solutions, wind power technologies (in particular the relevant fluid mechanics and the interplay between climate change and wind power generation), advanced renewable energy forecasting techniques, proactive mitigation strategies, and holistic approaches to mitigate climate change adverse effects, including extreme weather events, through dynamic energy systems and novel control schemes. The department is looking for an exceptional candidate who brings a synergistic skill set to our department, particularly individuals looking at fundamental physical problems relevant to the intersection of natural phenomena and engineering systems, and who can contribute effectively to the research, teaching and service missions of the MAE department.

The required job duties for this position encompass:
1. Establishing a robust research program, which involves the development of grant proposals & securing funding.
2. Teaching university students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels;
3. Maintaining professional competency in related discipline;
4. Participating in a variety of service activities.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Applicants must possess a PhD or have advanced to candidacy at the time of application, in the area of Aerospace Engineering or a related discipline.
