Job Summary

The Economics Program, housed in the School of Social Science and Global Studies, at the University of Southern Mississippi invites applications for a full time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning in August 2024. Ideal applicants will have teaching and research interests in the field of macroeconomics. The position is open with respect to subfields. A Ph.D. in Economics is required by the time of the appointment.

Teaching will focus on introductory and upper-level economics courses. The lower-division level includes, but not limited to, principles of macroeconomics course primarily populated with business administration majors. Upper-level courses include intermediate theory and field courses in the candidate's area of specialization.

Candidates are expected to maintain an active research agenda. The school strongly values and encourages interdisciplinary collaboration, which creates opportunities to teach and engage in scholarly activities in other social science programs such as sociology, political science, and anthropology. Our School offers support for scholarships and actively mentors junior colleagues. In addition to teaching and research, all faculty members are expected to engage in service to the school, college, university, and community.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities  

  • Teach three courses per semester, fall and spring.
  •   Hold regular office hours.
  •   Mentor and advise students in the program.
  •   Attend faculty meetings as determined by the Director of the School of Social Science and Global Studies.
  •   Engage in professional development and/or scholarly activities appropriate to the mission of the School, College and University.
  •   Provide service to assist the functioning of the School, College, and University.
  •   Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Minimum Qualifications  
    PhD in Economics or ABD with degree conferred by time of appointment.
    Preferred Qualifications  
    Teaching and research interests in the field of macroeconomics.
