Position Overview

The Economics Department at the University of Kansas is seeking candidates for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position to begin as early as August 18, 2019.  Candidates should possess a strong emphasis in macroeconomics as a major field.   Candidates must be able to teach macroeconomics for undergraduate and graduate students, and should contribute to broader university research environment. This position includes the endowed appointment of Oswald Scholar, which provides research support and a discretionary fund.

Job Description


40% - TEACHING: 
Teach a combination of required and elective Economics courses at the Undergraduate and Graduate level.   Hold regular office hours for students involved in classes taught. Participate in the academic advising of undergraduate and graduate students. Participate in the research advising of students including serving as a dissertation/thesis director and professional mentor for students.

40% - RESEARCH: 
Conduct and publish research (quantity, quality, significance, and impact) commensurate with an AAU institution.  Research, write, and publish in area of specialty in peer reviewed journals/books.  Maintain an active and productive research program.  Attend and present findings at professional conferences.  

20% - SERVICE: 
Serve on departmental, College, and/or University committees and actively contribute to the workings of the University community.  Participate in professional service.

Required Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in Economics from an accredited school is expected by the start date of the appointment (08-18-2019).
  • Demonstrated potential for high quality research
  • Demonstrated potential to teach effectively both undergraduate-level and graduate-level courses
  • Demonstrated potential to work in collaborative interdisciplinary environments.
