Position Summary
The Department of Earth and Oceanographic Science at Bowdoin College invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in surficial processes at the Assistant Professor level, beginning July 1, 2023. Areas of expertise might include sedimentary systems, geomorphology, hydrogeology, glaciology, stratigraphy, neotectonics, paleontology, basin analysis, petroleum geology, near-surface geophysics, remote sensing, or GIS. We seek candidates whose scholarship will offer opportunities to engage students in research. The successful candidate will teach three courses per year, including two courses with separate lab sections, and will contribute to the rotation of core courses for the major. Full-time laboratory instructor support is provided for introductory-level courses. We are especially interested in candidates who can offer courses that reflect the interests of our increasingly diverse student body. A PhD in Earth Science, Geological Science or other related field is expected by date of appointment.
The College’s location along the rocky Maine coast provides excellent local field sites for teaching and research. Department facilities include mineral, rock, and fossil collections; augmented reality sandbox; stream table; rock saws; shallow water current meters; remote water samplers for river analysis; ACDP; petrographic microscopes; and SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) with CL/EDS/EBSD capabilities.
