Position Title Assistant Professor of Dance Studies (Tenure-Track)
Job Description Summary
The Department of Dance at Barnard College, Columbia University in New York City invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor appointment in Dance Studies with a research and teaching focus on African, African-diasporic, and/or African-American dance. Other desirable areas of scholarship and teaching include feminist theory, decolonial theory, and/or critical race studies. While we primarily seek a scholar dedicated to an active research agenda, we welcome applicants who also possess teaching expertise in any discipline of performance practice (dance technique, choreography, community art/activism, etc.) Candidate may join the faculty of the Columbia University Ph.D. Program in Theatre and Performance. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in dance or related discipline at time of appointment (July 1, 2025), a distinguished record of scholarly publication or promise of such, proven capacity for teaching excellence at the college level, and ability and desire to perform service within the department, college, and university.
