Position Summary Information

Job Summary

The Assistant Professor Faculty position in Computer Science in the College of Business, Engineering, and Technology (CBET) will be responsible for the development and teaching of appropriate CS and related activities in collaboration with other faculty in BET. The successful candidate will possess the ability to demonstrate excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service. The candidate is expected to foster the growth in our technology-related programs by addressing student needs, collaborating with industry partners, and designing curriculum that supports student success. The successful candidate will also assist the Dean in the implementation of short and long term goals of the College, Academic Affairs, and the University.

Major/Essential Duties of Job

Teach undergraduate and/or courses in CS and coordinate with other Programs to deliver outcomes related to curricular and student needs and to the strategic priorities of the College

Provides assistance for programmatic growth (e.g., new courses, degree plan changes, etc.) and assists with program development for the College

Works with Dean to represent the college at various meetings, recruitment events, conferences, and University functions as necessary

Leads and engages with external communities and professional bodies to further the strategic interests and strengths of CS and College

Fosters interdisciplinary initiatives that broaden the interests and research in CS, including
engaging faculty from other disciplines

Assists with program assessment and programmatic reviews

Addresses student concerns, including course substitutions, independent studies and research, and course overloads

Coordinates with the Student Success Center for the appropriate advising of students with the CS
degree program

Coordinates with other departments and programs to meet the various needs of students

Teaches up to four courses per academic semester and, if desired, up to two courses in the summer in credentialed area(s)

Performs other site and position specific responsibilities as assigned

Occasional Duties
Required Education and Experience

Earned Ph.D., D.Sc., or Sc.D. in Computer Science, or a related field from an accredited

Record of effective teaching, scholarship, and service in Computer Science (CS), commensurate for appointment at the assistant professor rank

Exemplary skills in verbal and written communications and interpersonal relations

Commitment to the needs of a diverse educational community, including working and communicating across a broad range of disciplines

Preferred Education and Experience

Experience in course development, management, teaching, and quality assurance at the college or university level

Familiarity with accreditation processes (e.g., ABET, AACSB, SACSCOC) and assessment,
including data collection, organization, and analysis

Experience in research productivity, including publication of peer-reviewed research and competitive extramural funding, with an ability to foster collaborative, extramurally-funded projects and/or research for students

Experience with student-centered learning, team problem solving, capstone/internship
instruction, and professional development

Proficiency in current progranming languages, major game engines, database management systems, and computer graphics

Experience with Mobile, and Web software development technologies

Experience or Proficiency with networking technology and network management

Proficiency with system administration including visualization environment tools, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and TCP/IP

Ability to assist with university and professional service activities, including national and international outreach to, and collaboration with, industry and other academic institutions
