Position Summary
The Nurse Educator will be an essential member of the teaching team, responsible for coordinating and implementing clinical skills education and training throughout the medical student curriculum at IUSM-NW and will participate on the statewide curriculum leadership teams. The Nurse Educator will also coordinate the Interprofessional Education (IPE) curriculum for IUSM-NW and may also participate in teaching in our Scholarly Concentration: Urban Medicine and Health Disparities.
In addition to teaching responsibilities, the Nurse Educator will be responsible for recruiting and training standardized patients for Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) encounters and overseeing the operations of the Clinical Learning Center, including coordination of the Point-of-Care Ultrasound (PoCUS) curriculum.
The Nurse Educator will report to the Associate Dean and Campus Director of IUSM-NW and will work closely with the course director(s) throughout the curriculum, as appropriate.
Job duties include:
• Teaching students basic clinical skills, including how to obtain a comprehensive history, perform a physical examination, conduct patient assessments, document various kinds of clinical encounters, and develop effective patient interaction/communication skills, and other core knowledge and skills.
• Providing formative and summative feedback to students
• Communicating with faculty regarding the clinical skills curriculum and teaching expectations
• Recruiting and selecting standardized patients for simulated patient assessments and Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs)
• Training standardized patients, with the support of the physician faculty, to present reproducible medical history and physical findings for a given scenario
• Establishing schedules and instructional sessions for standardized patients for the various clinical skills courses in Phase 1 of the curriculum, as well as preparing payroll documents
• Coordinating and teaching in the Interprofessional Education curriculum for IUSM-NW.
• Overseeing the operations of the Clinical Learning Center
• Teaching in the Scholarly Concentration: Urban Medicine and Health Disparities
• Collaborating on educational, clinical or other scholarly research
• Engaging in institutional service and other duties as assigned
Basic Qualifications
Master’s degree in nursing required, with eligibility for licensure in the State of Indiana required. A PhD in Nursing preferred, as is current Indiana licensure. Demonstrated history of clinical education teaching. 3-5 years in clinical nursing experience

Must have superior clinical skills knowledge base, organizational skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills and a passion for teaching. The ability to work well as a team and be a self-starter is critical.
