The Department of Chemistry and Physics is seeking applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Chemistry beginning August 1, 2024.

Candidates are invited to submit applications to join the Chemistry and Physics Department within the College of Sciences and Mathematics (CSM) at Belmont University. Our faculty provide high quality learning experiences in small class environments and engages undergraduates in various scientific research experiences. Job responsibilities include teaching undergraduate science courses offered by the Department of Chemistry and Physics. This position will teach introductory chemistry courses for majors and non-majors, courses within the general education curriculum (BELL Core), and methods courses offered by the College of Education (EDU). Additional teaching may include upper-level courses in the candidate’s area of expertise that support and complement current offerings in Chemistry and Physics, as well as Education. A full-time teaching load is 24 hours per academic year. We welcome candidates with expertise in chemistry education and chemistry. The successful candidate will also develop a robust undergraduate research program that complements and expands current research offerings. Additional responsibilities include academic advising, student mentoring, scholarly activity, and departmental, college, and university service.

  • Skilled in the use of computers, Internet resources, and MS Office software.
  • Ability to learn relevant sections of BannerWeb, Belmont University’s online integrated database system for student grading.
  • Ability to integrate technology into the teaching and learning process.
  • Ability to successfully interact with students, other educators and educational institution representatives, and the general public in a professional manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of the programs and services offered by Belmont University. Interest and ability to work collaboratively in course design and to teach interdisciplinary and topical courses.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies.
   
Required Education Ph.D. in Chemistry Education, Chemistry, or related field, or progress toward a terminal degree.
   
Required Experience Teaching experience preferred.
