Job Description

This full-time, non-tenure track Instructor/Assistant Professor faculty position will join a distinct program (Bachelor of Business Education) that includes three concentrations: Corporate Communications, Talent Development, and Teacher Licensure.  A dynamic, student-oriented instructor/assistant professor is sought who has expertise in teaching Business Communication and Business Education. The program seeks a candidate committed to teaching excellence, staying abreast of developments and innovations in these fields, and maintaining an active program involving undergraduate and graduate students.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities include teaching 4-5 courses per semester related to the Business Communication and Business Education disciplines. Normal annual faculty evaluation is based on teaching (60%), research/professional development (20%), and service (20%), but responsibilities are negotiated with the Department Chair.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum qualifications include a graduate degree in a business communication or business education-related discipline or a Master of Business Administration with industry experience. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Preferred candidates include a conferred doctorate degree in business communication or business education-related disciplines. Candidates pursuing a doctorate degree will also be considered. Work experience in the discipline is preferred. Preference will also be given to applicants with teaching experience (both on campus and online) related to the business communication and business education disciplines.

The candidate should be comfortable teaching a variety of courses, on campus and online, in the Department of Applied Business Studies. Depending upon the candidate’s credentials, the Instructor/Assistant Professor of Business Communication may teach the following courses (not exclusive):

  • BCOM 201: Intro to Corporate Communication
  • BCOM 210: Business Communication for Professional Development
  • BCOM 300: Spreadsheet Applications
  • BCOM 301: Strategic Business Communication
  • BCOM 310: Database Applications
  • BCOM 350: Business Communication Applications
  • BCOM 400: Global Business Communication
  • BCOM 601: Managerial Communication
  • BCOM 680: Strategic Communication for Managing Diversity and Inclusion
  • BCOM 690: Advanced Professional Development
  • BCOM 692: Managerial Reports and Presentations
  • BCOM 695: Corporate Communication Strategy

Instruction: The instructor/assistant professor will generally teach 4-5 courses per semester. The division of work duties may be modified through consultation between the instructor/assistant professor and the Department Chair. Ultimately, the final decision on work assignments is determined by the university. Undergraduate and/or graduate mentoring responsibilities will be assigned.

Scholarship:  The successful candidate must exhibit scholarly activity, as defined by the Boyer Model, which may include the scholarship of discovery, integration, application, and pedagogy in business communication or business education.  It may also include, but not limited to, on-going professional development such as maintenance of professional certifications and continuing practice or consulting.  

Service: Service to the University, Robbins College of Business and Entrepreneurship, department, the region, and profession is expected of each faculty member.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:

The Department of Applied Business Studies (ABS) is one of four departments in the Robbins College of Business and Entrepreneurship at FHSU and offers outstanding undergraduate and graduate instruction. Currently, the degree and majors offered by the department are a B.B.A. in Marketing, a B.S. in Business Education, and a B.S. in Tourism and Hospitality Management. The department enrolls approximately 360 undergraduate students and makes significant academic contributions to the BBA core in providing Business Communication and Marketing coursework. All of these degrees are offered through online learning and face-to-face instruction. In the near future, the department may be involved in international partnerships involving cross-border education. Additionally, the department contributes to the college Masters of Business Administration program that enrolls approximately 180 graduate students as well as its own EDS – Educational Specialist in Business Education and Workforce Leadership, MSE – Masters of Science in Education with an emphasis Business, MLS – Masters of Liberal Studies with an emphasis in Corporate Communication, and MPS – Masters of Professional Studies with an emphasis in Workforce Development.
