Description of Work Unit | Through scholarship and teaching in languages, literatures, and cultures, the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures creates knowledge and promotes a culture of inquiry that encompasses student learning, faculty research, and community outreach. We strive to engage in a global community, foster social change, and promote education, dialogue, tolerance, and mutual respect. The Department currently offers courses in Arabic, ASL, Chinese, French, Italian, German, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, and Russian. |

Position Summary | Assistant Professor of Spanish with a focus on Borderlands Literature and Culture with a commitment to Spanish-language instruction, language justice, and culturally responsive pedagogies. Candidates should have a record of research, publication, teaching, and professional service. The successful candidate will produce nationally recognized research, teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, obtain independent or collaborative research funding, and provide professional service to the program, the university, and/or the community. This is a nine-month, tenure-track appointment to begin August 16, 2023. Responsibilities Include: · Teach five undergraduate and graduate courses per year · Work collaboratively with colleagues to build expand courses and offerings relevant to Border Studies · Engage in research and publication · Mentor and advise students · Assist the department in outreach and recruitment · Provide service to the department, college, university, and profession |

Required Job Qualifications | · Ph.D. in hand by the time of appointment · Focus on Spanish-language and multilingual cultures that develop at the borders of nation states, linguistic communities, and socioeconomic groups · Expertise in one or more of the following. · border and migration studies (U.S.A. and Mexico) · literary studies, · diasporic studies, · indigeneity and · gender studies · Experience teaching subject matter in Spanish · Demonstrated interest and experience in expanding the offerings and reach of Border Studies in Spanish · Advanced-High or higher proficiency on the ACTFL scale in Spanish and English |
Preferred Job Qualifications | · Commitment to serving Heritage speakers of Spanish · Interest in interdisciplinary program development and demonstrated potential for engaging in collaborative projects across academic units · Working proficiency in a third language (including indigenous) |
