The Department of African and African Diaspora Studies at The University of Texas at Austin invites applicants for a position in Black Political Thought in the Americas at the rank of advanced assistant professor. We seek outstanding scholars whose scholarship focuses on the Caribbean, Canada and East-Africa, with a background in Black radical genealogies in political theory, history/ies of political concepts, Caribbean thought, African anti-colonial thought, and Black Marxism(s). Duties include teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses, developing and maintaining an active research agenda, directing graduate research, and service to the department, college, and university.


Qualifications

Ph.D. in Africana Studies and a bachelor’s degree in Political Science. Demonstrated record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals, a well-defined research trajectory, and evidence of being an effective classroom teacher at a RI university. Specific research and teaching experience in the areas of the Caribbean, Canada and East-Africa. Preference for applicants with a background in Black radical genealogies in political theory, history/ies of political concepts, Caribbean thought, African anti-colonial thought, and Black Marxism(s), scholarship that is informed by the intersectionality of race, gender, class, and sexuality, as well as a demonstrated background in and commitment to African Diaspora Studies.

Semi-finalists will be invited to participate in an on-campus interview and would ideally be able to start immediately.

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Position funding is subject to budget availability.
