Position Overview

Position Summary: The College of Education and Technology seeks a qualified individual as an assistant professor of Bilingual Education in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. Responsibilities include a 12-hour undergraduate/graduate teaching load per semester (face-to-face, online, via lecture capture, or on-site delivery at school districts), participation in programmatic assessment, student advising, completion of scholarly endeavors, grant-seeking opportunities, and service to the university and the profession. This is a residential appointment and campus presence is required.


Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach undergraduate/graduate bilingual education, ESL/TESOL, and/or curriculum and instruction courses in various formats, such face-to-face, lecture capture, online, as well as travel to deliver TESOL graduate endorsement courses to cohorts in New Mexico.
  • Develop and revise content for courses to meet expectations of various accrediting bodies and stakeholders.
  • Confirm, as part of a team of faculty, student success on required licensure exams.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with agencies for field placements and work collaboratively with the Teacher Education Office director to establish placements and placement protocols.
  • Use, analyze, and synthesize data for program planning with reading/literacy and department faculty.
  • Advise and assist undergraduate and graduate students in a professional and collegial manner.
  • Attend departmental and university faculty meetings and external meetings as required.
  • Engage in scholarly activities pursuant to the field.
  • Provide service to the profession and University.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements:
  • An earned doctorate degree in bilingual/TESOL/ESL or closely related field is required (ABD considered). 
  • A minimum three years of K12 teaching experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 
  • Prior experience in developing and teaching online courses utilizing various online learning platforms. Alternatively, demonstrated ability to quickly learn and adapt new technologies. 
  • Communication and collaboration skills to facilitate working effectively with students, other faculty, alumni, professional groups, and agencies.


Working Conditions

Physical Demand and Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed during normal work hours but may require some evening or weekend hours
  • Work is sedentary in nature with 10 pounds maximum weight to lift and carry
  • Work requires reaching, handling of objects with hands and/or fingers, talking, and/or hearing, and seeing
