Job Description

The Department of Fine and Performing Arts, College of Arts and Sciences at Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) seeks a full-time Assistant Professor of Art History to begin Fall 2024. TAMIU is a growing university of over 8,000 students located in Laredo, Texas, a vibrant bilingual and bicultural city with a population of about 250,000. For more information, visit www.tamiu.edu. This is a tenure-track position that supports the BA in Visual Art, the minor Studio Art, and the minor in Art History programs. Primary duties will include teaching art history courses such as Art History Survey I & II and developing courses that cover art history from the 18th century to present day. A reduced course load (2-2 for the first two years) is provided to allow the new hire to focus on conducting and publishing research in art and/or closely related areas. Duties also include committee assignments, shared gallery management, departmental duties, and university/community service. This position requires face-to-face interactions through a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.

Required Qualifications :

  • The successful candidate must hold a doctorate in Art History. ABDs will also be considered but must have earned a doctorate before appointment.
  • Previous experience teaching Art History at the university level, even if teaching was as an adjunct or teaching assistant.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An active research agenda focused in contemporary art.
  • Gallery, museum, and/or curatorial experience.
  • Experience working on collaborative projects within a university and/or through community outreach.
  • A strong record of publication in peer-reviewed journals.
