Position Description

The faculty of the School of Visual Art and Design in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of South Carolina, Columbia campus, invites applications for a 9-month, full time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Art Education to begin on August 16, 2024.
Applicants must have PhD or EdD in Art Education or Curriculum and Instruction by start date of employment and at least 3 years of part-time or full-time teaching experience in K-12 institutions or community-based contexts. Applicants must also have 1 – 3 years of teaching experience in higher education. The successful candidate will be an active scholar with research expertise in one or more of the following areas: racial justice, community-based art education, research methods and methodologies, critical disability studies, and/or emerging technologies.
The faculty member will teach courses to our BFA, MAT, and MA students in art education, as well as art education courses for non-majors. The teaching load is 2-2 (2 courses per semester). The successful candidate will also have familiarity with developing and delivering online curriculum and will successfully collaborate with art education faculty to launch an online MA program for K-12 art teachers. Expectations will include maintaining a high level of research accomplishment and publication record in peer-reviewed journals, successful procurement of internal and external grants, academic conference presentations, strong and engaged teaching, and university, professional, and local community service.

The School of Visual Art and Design, http://artsandsciences.sc.edu/art, employs 37 full-time faculty members who teach classes for approximately 650 majors in four disciplines: art education, art history, media arts, and studio art.
