Position Details
General Statement | We are seeking candidates with a solid entrepreneurial and collaborative design ability to contribute to the innovation and practice of architecture. Candidates are expected to be able to introduce students to the sociological complexity of urban/rural environments and develop their skills for conceptualizing architecture within a range of contexts, from Metropolitan areas to the towns of the Mountain West. Candidates must demonstrate the potential to extend the School’s community partnerships and exhibit promise in obtaining funding, preferably external. Teaching responsibilities include all levels of design studio (including community design projects) in addition to one or more courses such as history, theory, building construction, materials, computation, environmental systems, and/or practice. |

The Department | As a land-grant institution located in the heart of the Greater Yellowstone ecological system and the Rocky Mountains, the School of Architecture and Montana State University are internationally recognized for research and creative activity drawn from the social, cultural, and environmental conditions of the western landscape. The School of Architecture offers a four-year pre-professional undergraduate program leading to a one-and-a-half year professional Master of Architecture degree fully accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB). The program has approximately 400 undergraduate and 80 graduate students. The School of Architecture empowers students to engage the complexities of social and ecological systems through creative, collaborative and ethical design of the built environment. The College | The College of Arts & Architecture is home to distinctive academic programs within the Schools of Art, Architecture, Music and Film & Photography. Students enjoy close mentoring relationships with faculty through a curriculum that is rich in studio- and lab-based pedagogies. The College offers international and cultural travel opportunities for students in all majors and encourages internship experiences for many of its programs. The College hosts the only accredited architecture program in Montana and supports a unique, world-class graduate program in science and natural history filmmaking. Graduates from the college enjoy successful careers in art, design, media production, photography, architecture, education, and music.
