The Department of Languages and Literatures at Delaware State University in Dover, Delaware invites applications for a 12-month tenure-track Assistant Professor in Applied Linguistics/Assistant Program Director. Candidates with a degree in a closely related field such as Bilingual Education or TESOL will also be considered. The position will begin in the fall 2022 semester.

General Duties

The successful candidate will serve as assistant program director of ESL programs. Along with assisting with the administration of the English Language Institute and MA TESOL/Bilingual Education program, the position holds expectations for teaching and research. Preference given to candidates with Chinese language proficiency and with expertise in bilingual education and/or dual-language immersion education.

This position includes the future expectation of international travel 2-3 times per year in assisting with the administration of programs established with partner institutions, and the potential to assist with the development of the University’s burgeoning bilingual education programs.

Required Qualifications

PhD in Applied Linguistics, Bilingual Education, TESOL, or closely related field.

Desired Experience & Qualifications

  • Prior administrative experience
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching ESL/EFL, with preference given to individuals with experience in bilingual education and/or dual-language immersion instruction.
  • Evidence of intercultural awareness and competence.
  • Expertise in digital instruction and online pedagogy.
  • Bi- or multilingual, with preference for Chinese proficiency International and intercultural experience and networks
