General Summary

Eastern Michigan University’s OT Program is seeking applicants to contribute to the growth of our program. We invite applications for a faculty position beginning in Fall 2024.

Eastern Michigan University’s Occupational Therapy program is one of the top-ranked OT programs within the state and has been designated a Best Entry-Level Masters OT Program by Region since 2019 by HealthGrad.com. We are well respected within the University and are acknowledged as a program of excellence. We are one of eight programs that comprise the School of Health Sciences, situated in the College of Health and Human Services. The mission of the EMU OT program is to educate occupational therapists to value occupation and strive to understand its complexity and depth. Through this understanding of the power of occupation, graduates of our program are armed with the tools to lead creative practice and enhance meaningful occupation and participation at individual, community and system levels. The OT program supports the Colleges focus on interprofessional education and actively engages in interprofessional events. The College provides internal awards and funding for interprofessional education initiatives and research. The OT program also supports the university’s focus on community engagement and has many community collaborations and partnerships that serve the community, support student learning and faculty research.

The OT faculty is composed of a committed group of educators with strong ties to the community and the OT profession. There are numerous opportunities for teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate level in our integrated curriculum. Many of our courses are team-taught, offering both faculty and students opportunities for collaborative learning experiences. We are in the beginning stages of revising our existing Master’s program. A new member of our faculty can play an integral role in helping to shape the program.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach in the entry-level occupational therapy MOT program
  • Engage in scholarship activities
  • Advise and mentor students in the scope of professional development
  • Engage in the Occupational Therapy Department and university service, professional service, community service and/or inter-professional activities

Minimum Qualifications:

  • An earned terminal degree (i.e., PhD, Ed.D, DSc, DHS, or OTD) in occupational therapy or related discipline
  • Two (2) years of teaching experience
  • Minimum of five (5) years of clinical experience
  • Must be initially certified by NBCOT and be eligible for OT licensure in the state of Michigan.
  • An active research agenda or demonstrated potential for scholarship

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Teaching and clinical experience in the area of adult rehabilitation
  • Desire to teach in a collaborative and team-teaching environment
