Job Summary/Basic Function
About This Role:
Provides academic and practicum instruction within the School of Nursing. Plans, coordinates, and conducts on-campus and online classroom and practicum experiences for students. Participates in scholarly and academic activities appropriate to the Assistant Professor rank. Reports to the Director of Undergraduate Nursing Studies, and/or Director of Graduate Nursing Studies, on curriculum and course issues (e.g., students, practicum), and reports to the School of Nursing Chair on all other issues (e.g., personnel, assignments).
Position Responsibilities:

  • Teaches students in the practicum, laboratory and classroom settings
  • Contributes to the generation of research findings in nursing and nursing education.
  • Maintains academic standards as established by the School of Nursing, college, and
    university.
  • Participates in program, School of Nursing, college and university committees and in
    other activities associated with professional status.
  • Assumes responsibility for the planning and organization of courses to which assigned.
  • Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of School of Nursing,
    program, course, and student activities.
    • Displays scholarly orientation to the assumption of the responsibilities of a university
      faculty member:
      a. Utilizes teaching-learning principles appropriately;
      b. Serves as a knowledgeable resources person to colleagues, students, and
      community;
      c. Shares professional expertise beyond the local level;
      d. Assists in developing reports required for the operation of the School of
      Nursing.
  • Maintains membership in and participates in activities of professional associations.
  • Plans professional development activities for self, such as continuing education offerings,
    workshops, professional meetings, etc.
  • Provides academic advising/counseling to assigned students.

Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience)
Minimum Qualifications
  • Doctorate in Nursing (preferred), or doctorate in related field.
  • Educational experience in a nationally accredited nursing program. Experience in clinical nursing.
  • Unencumbered licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Texas.
