Assistant Professor - Nurse Anesthesia

Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Assistant Professor - Nurse Anesthesia at its Detroit campus location.

Essential functions (job duties):
  • Coordinate assigned courses in the Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice (DNAP) program, in accordance with the teaching workload policies of the program and College of Health Care Sciences.
  • Teach assigned areas of content in courses including simulation throughout the curriculum of the DNAP program, consistent with areas of knowledge, skill, and department needs.
  • Serve as an academic advisor for graduate students enrolled in the Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice program.
  • Serve as doctoral project committee chair and member, over the duration of their program enrollment.
  • Deliver course content and provide timely evaluation of graduate students, according to university policies and department guidelines.
  • Engage in activities, such as customized continuing education events and visits to sites, to support partnerships with affiliate clinical sites.
  • Actively participate in department quality improvement activities related to course design, development and evaluation.
  • Serve on department, program, university and professional committees and engage in other forms of professional service.
  • Participates in Program generated community service projects as assigned.
  • Attends and participates in Program, Department and College meetings on a regular basis.

Unique duties:
Qualifications:
  • Must possess a current unrestricted RN & APRN CRNA license in the State of Michigan.
  • Currently is certified by the Council on Certification of Nurse Anesthetists.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of clinical experience as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist.
  • Higher education experience, teaching, coordinating coursework and/or precepting NA students.
  • Must possess a Doctorate degree (DNP, DNAP) or Research Doctorate from a nationally accredited institution or currently be enrolled in a doctorate program.
  • Current ACLS, and BLS certification.
  • Proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written and electronic) necessary to interact effectively with students, faculty, professional staff, administration, clinical affiliates, and the community.

Preferred qualifications:

-Familiarity of the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Program’s policies and procedures. -Skill in goal setting and team building. Analytical and organizational skills to plan, implement and evaluate program activities.
