The Department of Psychology consists of 31 faculty members, the staff of the advising center, the staff of the Psychoeducational Clinic, and the four members of our office staff, as well as over 750 undergraduate majors and 120 graduate students pursuing their doctoral degrees. The faculty are outstanding scholars, many of whom have won awards for teaching and research
and/or are fellows in the major professional societies in Psychology. Essential Job Duties
The Department of Psychology at NC State University is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor to advance research, teaching, and service in Lifespan Developmental Psychology beginning Fall 2027. 
We invite scholars who conduct applied developmental research at any stage of the lifespan, including infancy, childhood, adolescence, adulthood, and/or aging. While the research area is open, we are especially interested in candidates who bridge the gap between laboratory science and real-world impacts that improve lives in diverse environments using multimodal data. Faculty members in Lifespan Developmental Psychology conduct both basic and applied research spanning the lifespan, with an emphasis on cognitive, socioemotional, and health-related development. The purpose of this position is to complement and extend these existing strengths while contributing to our collaborative, interdisciplinary approach to understanding development across the lifespan.
In this role, you will develop a productive research program that advances understanding of development across the lifespan and contributes meaningful scholarship to the discipline. You will teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, helping them develop as scholars and professionals, while contributing your expertise to the continued growth of the Lifespan Developmental Psychology program and the broader discipline.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and sustain an independent research program in lifespan developmental psychology.
  • Disseminate research through scholarly publications, presentations, and other professional outlets.
  • Teach courses that support undergraduate and graduate education in psychology.
  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in their academics, research, and professional development.
  • Contribute service and professional leadership within the Lifespan Developmental Psychology program area, department, college, university, and broader field.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
Requires a doctoral degree in Psychology with a Developmental Psychology focus or other related fields.
Other Required Qualifications
  • A record of scholarly research appropriate to the career stage, demonstrated through publications, presentations, or other scholarly outlets.
  • Capacity to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels and mentor students in research and professional development.
  • Knowledge of developmental processes across one or more stages of the lifespan, with the ability to contribute to courses across various domains and phases of development.
  • Capacity to work effectively in interdisciplinary collaborative teams within and beyond the university.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Research expertise that complements or extends the department’s strengths in cognitive, socioemotional, and/or health-related development.
  • Knowledge of or experience with multimodal approaches to developmental research.
  • A research orientation that connects laboratory science with real-world applications and meaningful impacts on individuals and communities.
  • Scholarly interests that contribute to the growth and development of the Lifespan Developmental Psychology program.
