General Summary
Eastern Michigan University School of Music & Dance seeks an artist/teacher of Percussion at the rank of Assistant Professor. This is a full-time, tenure-track appointment beginning Fall, 2024.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach applied percussion to undergraduate and graduate percussion majors and minors.
- Direct the Percussion Ensemble.
- Teach percussion methods classes.
- Work individually and collaboratively to recruit a robust studio of music education, music therapy, and performance students.
- Act as liaison to instrumental ensemble directors and marching band drumline instructor.
- Oversee and manage percussion inventory.
- Engage in significant professional creative/scholarly activities.
- Teach other classes in areas of expertise as load permits.
- Serve on committees within the School of Music & Dance and the University.
Minimum Qualifications:
Earned doctorate in percussion performance is preferred; Applicants will have an established record of excellence as an educator and demonstrate a high level of artistry as a versatile performer. Pedagogical knowledge and/or performance experience should include solo repertoire, concert ensembles, drum set, and world percussion. Primary consideration will be given to candidates with a successful record of recruiting and teaching applied percussion at the collegiate level. Candidates should demonstrate experience and/or potential for innovative pedagogy in preparing students to navigate the 21st century musical landscape. In addition, the successful candidate will possess excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills, and be committed to working in a collegial and collaborative environment.
