The Moores School of Music at the University of Houston seeks candidates for a Music Education position at the Assistant Professor (tenure-track) level, with appointment beginning Fall of 2024. We seek an accomplished colleague in music education with a highly productive research profile, preferably specializing in ethnomusicology, world music pedagogy, music outside of Western art music, culturally responsive/sustaining pedagogy, or other similar topics.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in music education and advise student research projects, dissertations, and theses 
  • Conduct research leading to top-tier national and international publications and presentations, establishing a profile as an expert in an area of focus
  • Engage in service to the school, university, and profession through committee membership, connections with area EC-12 schools, and/or outreach programs.

Qualifications

: 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in Music Education or a related field (ABD considered, but completion of the doctoral degree is required by the start of Fall 2024 semester)
  • Demonstrated success in EC-12 music with a minimum of four years' experience
  • Evidence of, or potential for, a research agenda that contributes meaningfully to the field of music education

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong teaching record, preferably with experience in higher education, and an ability to support students with a broad range of backgrounds and interests
  • Research specializing in ethnomusicology, world music pedagogy, music outside of western art music, culturally responsive/sustaining pedagogy, or other similar topics
  • Commitment to collaboration, creativity, and collegiality
