Job Description

The Music Department in the School of Arts, Media, and Communication at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Music specializing in music education, beginning fall 2024.

The primary responsibility will be to teach undergraduate music courses for music majors in the Bachelor of Music with EC-12 Teaching Certification program. Course teaching assignments include Foundations of Music Programs, Music for Young Children, and Instrumental Literature and Techniques. Secondary areas to be determined depending upon the candidate’s strengths and departmental needs. Normal workload is usually nine credit hours of teaching with a three-credit hour scholarly/creative activity release for a total of twelve credit hours per semester. The candidate will work with the College of Education and Human Development in matters of standards and accreditation, help coordinate clinical experiences in public schools, and mentor students. The successful candidate will be expected to work within a team-oriented departmental culture, and to undertake other duties according to the needs of the department.

Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music. The Department of Music is a highly active unit in the School of Arts, Media, & Communication, which offers undergraduate and graduate study in communication and the visual and performing arts. The Performing Arts Center, opened in April 2005, features a concert hall with flexible acoustics designed by Jaffe-Holden Acoustics, and is the principal performance venue of the Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra and the Corpus Christi Chorale, as well as student and faculty performances.

Required Qualifications:

  • A completed doctorate in music education or closely related degree (D.M.E., Ph.D., or D.M.A). Advanced ABD will be considered; degree must be conferred at the time of appointment.

  • Demonstrated success in teaching undergraduate music courses in music education, and supervision of student teaching.

  • Three years teaching music in K-12 public schools.

  • Committed to promoting and fostering a learning environment that is supportive of individuals from various backgrounds.

  • Evidence of ability to be a successful teacher, scholar, and congenial colleague.
