Friends University invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track, faculty position in Marriage and Family Therapy (Master of Science in Family Therapy) at our Wichita Campus. This position is a 9-month faculty appointment and reports to the Chair of the Division, Dr. Culver-Turner and Dr. Habben.  The ideal candidate will hold a Doctoral degree in Marriage and Family Therapy or closely related field with successful teaching experience.

ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY & THE COMMUNITY

Friends University offers a complement of traditional undergraduate majors, non-traditional adult degree-completion programs, and professional graduate programs.  Founded in 1898, the University is situated on a beautiful park-like campus in the heart of Wichita, Kansas.  Wichita is a vibrant urban city with all the charms of a small town.  Our great community offers something for everyone and is rich in arts, education, leisure, and commercial resources.

Friends University seeks to hire faculty who will embrace our mission and celebrate our commitment to equipping students to honor God in their personal, professional, and spiritual lives by adhering to the University’s RISE Core Values (Respect, Inclusion, Service and Excellence).  The mission of the University is:

Friends University, a Christian University of Quaker heritage, equips students to honor God and serve others by integrating their intellectual, spiritual, and professional lives.

The Master of Science in Family Therapy (MSFT) program began in Wichita in 1986 as one of the first of two master’s degree programs to launch Friends University into graduate education and expanded to include a delivery site in the greater Kansas City area in 1996. The MSFT degree is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marital and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE) of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) with the most recent accreditation renewal completed in 2018.

The Wichita location trains a cohort of 34 students as they move through the 60-credit hour, 24-month degree in a cohort model. Students range in age from 22 – 60 and represent varied demographics with regard to spirituality, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, and ethnicity.

EXPECTATIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

The person selected for this position will receive a 9-month contract to fulfill the duties of a core faculty member for the Wichita program. MSFT faculty outcomes include meeting University faculty role expectations for teaching, scholarship, and service, interpersonal competency in interaction with the program students, colleagues and stakeholders, contribution to engaging diversity through instruction, supervision, and program development, contribution to MSFT program effectiveness, and contribution to the practice and profession of MFT.  Assignments in teaching are based upon the candidate’s credentials and the division’s curricular needs.  The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in recruiting prospective students for the Master of Science in Family Therapy program.

This program prioritizes working in a collaborative team environment.  As a core faculty member, there is an expectation to pursue, model and train a high threshold for interpersonal competency.  This requires the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate, both orally and in writing, with diverse sets of constituencies.
