JOB SUMMARY:

 

The Gordon F. Derner School of Psychology invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The assistant professor will be a clinical or counseling psychologist and have strong knowledge of counseling, psychopathology, assessment, and research methods. Applicants for this position must have a PhD by August 2024 and will begin teaching in fall 2024. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Candidates will be expected to teach courses primarily in the Mental Health Counseling program. As a core faculty member of the program, the candidate will be expected to teach clinical courses in counseling, psychopathology, assessment, and, if needed, develop a course in his/her area of expertise. Opportunity to teach a course in another program, such as our Clinical PhD, is possible.

2. Advising and mentoring students are required, as well as providing service to the school and university as determined by the Dean.

3. Establish and maintain an active research program. Candidates will publish theoretical or empirical research in top-tier journals. In addition, candidates will demonstrate strong interest in guiding student thesis research in the Mental Health Counseling and General Psychology programs, if needed.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Candidates must have completed a Ph.D. in clinical or counseling psychology. A doctoral degree in psychology must be from an APA-accredited program.

2. Candidates should be licensed or licensed-eligible in New York State.

3. Candidates must be able to integrate their clinical experience, scholarship, teaching, and service, as well as collaborate with interdisciplinary faculty of counselors, psychologists, and psychoanalysts.

4. The successful candidate must demonstrate a commitment to the mental health counseling profession and psychology through relevant professional memberships (e.g., APA, ACA, or related regional associations in the field of psychology, counseling, and counselor education), professional development activities, service/advocacy, and scholarly work.

5. Priority will be given to individuals with teaching experience in the following areas: psychopathology, assessment, counseling practice, diversity/social justice, or in specialty areas such as substance use disorders, child/adolescent psychotherapy, or forensics.

SALARY INFORMATION:

In compliance with New York’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $80,000 - $83,000. Adelphi University considers factors such as departmental budgets, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. An annual base salary higher than the range may be warranted in circumstances where a candidate has demonstrable equivalent prior higher education experience at another University.
